Ranger

Handheld Surface Contamination Monitor

The Ranger is a microprocessor controlled radiation monitor for measuring surface contamination, wipe tests, Transport Index (T.I.), field logging and backup warning. It is widely used for checking nucleair transports and stocks. The Ranger has rugged casing and handheld dimensions.

The Ranger measures alpha, beta, gamma, and x radiation using a 2-inch pancake GM detector with high sensitivity to common beta and alpha sources. The easy-to-read digital display shows readings in your choice of mR/hr, cpm, cps, or mSv/hr. The Ranger automatically compensates for GM tube dead time. Anti-saturation circuitry prevents jamming in high radiation fields. The Ranger meets CE certification requirements.

The Total/Timer feature takes timed readings for periods from one minute to 24 hours for precise measurement of low-level contamination. The "safety first" calibration feature can eliminate radiation exposure to the calibration technician.

An optional wipe test plate offers a convenient way to check on low-level contamination, using the timer function. It slides easily onto the Ranger positioning the depression and wipe directly in front of the GM tube window at a fixed distance of 1 centimeter. The wipe test plate is removable for general surveying or decontamination. The plate can be supplied with a low level beta emitting check-source.
